Suixi lion dance opens intangible cultural heritage festival

The renowned Longwan Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe from Suixi county, Zhanjiang performed at the opening ceremony of the 7th International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritages, showcasing the charm of Zhanjiang's folk customs on the international stage.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the festival is being held in Chengdu, Sichuan province from Oct 16 to 22, across one main venue and 28 theme venues.

More than 5,600 representatives of 1,100 intangible cultural heritage projects from 86 countries and regions around the world are taking part in the festival, which includes more than 540 different kinds of events, such as international exhibitions, forums, competitions, performances, and interactive experiences.

The Longwan Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe is one of Zhanjiang's most prestigious groups, having won various prizes at national competitions and performing on major stages in foreign countries. The troupe performed a typical Southern Lion at the festival’s opening ceremony, winning praise and applause from Chinese and foreign guests and audiences.
