Overview:
Divided into 15 mesoregions, São Paulo State, located in southeastern Brazil, comprises 645 municipalities and covers an area of 248,200 square kilometers. With a population of around 45.15 million, it is the most populous state in Brazil. São Paulo boasts abundant resources, diverse industries, advanced technology, a skilled workforce, and well-developed infrastructure, making it Brazil's economic powerhouse. The state's agricultural and livestock sectors contribute 40 percent of the nation's output, and it is the world's largest producer of oranges, potatoes and sugarcane.
São Paulo also accounts for 40 percent of Brazil's industrial production capacity, contributing 45.3 percent to the country's industrial output. The state is home to Brazil's key centers for electronics, automotive manufacturing, and the largest industrial park and refinery in the country. With 36 universities, 17 technical centers, and 32.4 percent of Brazil's researchers, it is the leading hub for research and innovation. The capital, São Paulo city, is a globally recognized metropolis, serving as the financial center of Brazil and Latin America.
Relations with Guangdong:
Since establishing ties, both regions have actively engaged in exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as trade, agriculture, sports, and culture through delegation visits. Several leaders from Guangdong government have led delegations to visit São Paulo State. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Guangdong donated medical supplies to the state, shared anti-pandemic experiences through video exchanges, and engaged in pandemic cooperation efforts. South China Agricultural University has established joint research centers in São Paulo State, focusing on biological breeding development and soybean breeding.
In 2021, Rodrigo Garcia, the then governor São Paulo State, delivered a video speech for the "Guangdong-Latin American and Caribbean Countries Cooperation and Exchange Dialogue & Guangdong International Business Opportunities Promotion Conference".
