Overview:
Ho Chi Minh, formerly known as Saigon, is located in southern Vietnam and spans an area of 2,095 square kilometers. It comprises 16 urban districts, 5 rural districts, and 1 sub-city, with a permanent population of approximately 9.46 million. As Vietnam's largest city and one of its five centrally governed municipalities, Ho Chi Minh serves as a key center for the nation's economy, culture, technology and international exchanges.
The city is a major transportation hub, offering well-connected land, sea and air routes, and it houses Vietnam's largest commercial port and international airport. Among its notable landmarks are the Independence Palace, the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, and the Central Post Office.
Relations with Guangdong:
Since establishing ties, Guangdong and Ho Chi Minh have maintained frequent high-level visits and close exchanges and cooperation in areas such as party-to-party exchanges, trade and cultural activities. In 2019, Ouyang Weimin, the then vice-governor of Guangdong led a delegation to Ho Chi Minh city, meeting with Trần Lưu Quang, the then executive deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and Le Thanh Liem, the then executive vice-chairman of its municipal People’s Committee. They discussed further enhancing practical cooperation between the two regions in trade, investment, local partnerships and celebrated the 10th anniversary of the sister relationship between Guangdong and Ho Chi Minh.
