Overview:
Suva, the capital of Fiji, is located on the southeastern coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island, along Suva Bay. It covers an area of about 20 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 77,000. Suva serves as the political, economic, and commercial center of Fiji and is the largest metropolitan hub among South Pacific island countries, often referred to as the "New York of the South Pacific". The city is home to key government institutions, including the Fijian Presidential Palace, Government House, Parliament Hall, and various foreign embassies and international organizations. Suva frequently hosts regional meetings, such as the Pacific Islands Forum.
As a major transportation hub in the South Pacific, Suva's seaport accommodates ships of up to 50,000 tons and receives nearly a thousand international vessels annually. Additionally, with the main campus of the University of the South Pacific located in Suva, the city is recognized as a cultural center of the South Pacific, earning the nickname "Cultural Crossroads of the South Pacific". Its economy is primarily driven by tourism and light industry, with approximately half of its residents being of Indian descent.
Relations with Guangdong:
Guangdong has supported Suva through various projects, including the renovation of the Suva City Hall auditorium in September 2018 and the reconstruction of the sports field at Marist Brothers High School in September 2019.
