Vientiane, Laos

Time of establishment of friendly relations: April 2015

Overview:

Vientiane is the capital of Laos and the country's political, economic, and cultural center, as well as its largest city. It is home to about three-quarters of Laos' industrial and mining enterprises. Covering an area of 3,920 square kilometers, Vientiane is located along the middle reaches of the Mekong River and has a population of approximately 900,000, including a significant Chinese community.

Relations with Guangdong:

Since establishing friendly relations, Guangdong and Vientiane have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and cooperation in areas such as inter-party relations, culture, and tourism. In 2019, Ouyang Weimin, the then vice governor of Guangdong, led a delegation to Vientiane, where he met with Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, secretary of the Vientiane Municipal Party Committee and mayor of Vientiane. In recent years, leaders of both regions have exchanged letters on multiple occasions, maintaining close communication.
