Zhuhai has three districts, including Xiangzhou, Doumen and Jinwan. It's the second largest port city (behind Shenzhen) in China and has 10 national Category-one ports.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world's longest cross-sea bridge, spans across the three cities. It’s the first of its kind in China, making Zhuhai the only mainland city to directly connect Hong Kong and Macao by roadway.

Ever since the Hengqin FTZ (Free Trade Zone) came into operation in 2015, the city has played an increasingly important role in China's Belt and Road Initiative. It has cooperated with Macao Special Administrative Region to build a world-class tourism and leisure center and China-Portugal economic and trade cooperation platform. Economic and trade relations with Latin American countries have also been continuously strengthened through diversification and the furthering of secure access to the outside world.

In 2023, the city achieved a regional GDP of 423.32 billion yuan ($58.96 billion), a year-on-year increase of 3.8 percent. The per capita regional GDP was 170,300 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent, and the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size was 156.56 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 percent.

Zhuhai is the only city in China that has been selected as one of the "Top 40 Tourist Attractions in China" because of its overall urban landscape. It has successively won the honorary titles of National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Environmental Protection Model City and China's Excellent Tourism City, among others.
