As of July 2024, Guangdong province had established sister province/city relations with 209 provinces and cities in 66 countries around the world (excluding friendship exchange provinces and cities).

These relationships are categorized as follows: 49 at the provincial level, 144 at the municipal level, and 16 at the county or district level.

In terms of regional distribution, Guangdong has 47 friendship provinces and cities in Asia, 12 in Africa, 70 in Europe, 55 in the Americas, and 25 in Oceania.
