A cultural tourism promotion event was held on June 15 in Kongtong Ancient Town, Pingliang, Gansu province, providing a platform to showcase the region's Taoist culture, wellness resources, and unique local offerings.
An experiential activity was also launched, featuring over 80 themed pavilions from across the city and showcasing intangible cultural heritage, cultural tourism, agricultural products, and local cuisine.
Pingliang, located at the eastern end of the Northern Silk Road in Gansu, is home to Kongtong Mountain, a national 5A-level tourist attraction known as the "Holy Land of Taoism". The site boasts a 1,500-year history of coexistence among Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Kongtong martial arts is recognized alongside Shaolin as one of China's leading martial arts schools, and Huangfu Mi's acupuncture techniques laid the foundation for acupuncture medicine worldwide.
With an average annual temperature of 8.5 C and 46.1 percent forest coverage, Pingliang enjoys a temperate climate and has earned titles like National Ecological Civilization Demonstration City.
During the event, visitors experienced traditional crafts such as Kongtong paper-cutting and "flew over" Kongtong Mountain via VR and AR. The food area featured local dishes, while the agricultural section showcased products like Jingning apples and Pingliang red beef. Performances and night markets further boosted nighttime economic activity.
