Jinchang development zone named among first national zero-carbon parks
The National Development and Reform Commission, working in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Energy Administration, recently released the first batch of national zero-carbon industrial park construction list. Jinchang Economic and Technological Development Zone made the cut, becoming one of the country's pioneering parks to explore a zero-carbon development pathway.
The first list covers 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, with a total of 52 parks selected.
It focuses on high-value-added and low-emission industries such as new energy equipment manufacturing, advanced equipment manufacturing, and computing centers, reflecting the national strategic direction toward green and low-carbon development.
Upgraded to a national-level development zone in 2010, Jinchang Economic and Technological Development Zone has also been recognized as a national green industrial park and a circular economy demonstration pilot. It is driven by leading industries such as nonferrous metal new materials, new energy batteries, and chemical recycling, and serves as the core area for the Jinchang-Baiyin-Lanzhou-Wuwei nonferrous metals national advanced manufacturing cluster.
Notably, the zone has shown a positive trend of initial decoupling between economic growth and carbon emissions.
From 2022 to 2024, despite an increase in comprehensive energy consumption, total carbon emissions remained stable at approximately 1.45 million metric tons, while carbon emission intensity per unit of energy consumption plummeted by 29.2 percent, laying a solid foundation for a deeper zero-carbon transformation.
