In 2024, the Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration, Xiamen Port Authority, and the Xiamen Area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone issued the world's first guideline for the safe maritime transportation of containerized lithium battery energy storage systems, providing comprehensive instructions for all stages of transport, including terminal storage, ship berthing, and loading and unloading.

Previously, these energy storage containers were classified as Class 9 dangerous goods for international shipping due to their size, weight, and the lack of standardized safety regulations for maritime transport.

This initiative has significantly reduced customs clearance times, accelerated exports, and marked the first large-scale export of new energy products via multipurpose vessels in Fujian, a breakthrough for Xiamen Port in international logistics for new energy. This demonstrates how port services can be innovated to enhance the business environment and support economic development.
