Film culture fosters cross-border dialogue in Kuliang
The "Winter Clouds Over Kuliang: Screening of the Documentary Dear Kuliang and A Film Poster Exhibition" was held from Dec 12 to 14 at the Kuliang Club in Fuzhou's Kuliang, to advance cultural exchange under the Belt and Road Initiative through cinema and to foster dialogue and mutual understanding between Chinese and international audiences. The event also provided residents with high-quality film experiences while boosting Fuzhou's cultural influence.
The event began with a special screening of Dear Kuliang, a 50-minute Sino-US co-produced documentary. As the first documentary to present Kuliang's history and culture from an international perspective, it highlights cross-border cooperation and shares Kuliang's story with a global audience.
A panel discussion featuring director Liu Siyuan, producer Gao Zhixia from Fujian Media Group's Documentary Department, and Professor Chen Tao of the Renmin University Sanshan Film Review Center focused on the documentary's artistic achievements in audiovisual storytelling, historical narrative, and cross-cultural communication, underscoring the film's unique role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting civilizational dialogue.
Following the screening, an opening ceremony for a film poster exhibition was held, showcasing 72 winter-themed classic movie posters from around the world.
Academic lectures and film salons with scholars from Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-sen University, Minjiang University, and other institutions also aimed to make film criticism more accessible to the public.
By drawing on Fuzhou's history as a hub along the Maritime Silk Road and Guling's legacy in international exchange, the event uses cinema to build cultural bridges.
