The second plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held on March 7. During the meeting, Teng Jiacai, a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC from Fujian, delivered a speech on advancing marine scientific innovation and driving the high-quality growth of the marine economy.

As a blue engine driving economic growth, the marine economy, with its vast potential and unique advantages, plays a pivotal role in fueling China's economic transformation and upgrading. At the heart of this development lies technological innovation to unlock the full potential of the marine economy.  

Fujian, renowned for its thriving marine sector, is blessed with abundant marine resources. The province's oceans, bays, islands, straits, and the "Maritime Silk Road" heritage endowed it with vast opportunities for marine development, positioning the marine economy as one of Fujian's primary pillars for high-quality economic advancement.

In the past year, Fujian's marine economy has achieved notable milestones with a package of supportive policies being enacted. The province's marine economy is on a steadfast trajectory, showcasing remarkable strides.

Currently, the deep integration of the marine economy and the digital realm is driving the upgrading of the marine industry. For instance, the "Mintou No. 1" deep-sea aquaculture and fishing tourism platform, leveraging 5G-powered sensor technology for data collection and analysis, has revolutionized aquaculture practices, rendering them more scientific.

Fujian has so far invested in and constructed 23 deep-sea aquaculture platforms, featuring over 5,300 deep-sea large net cages, making it the national leader in scale. Additionally, Fujian's wind power utilization hours have ranked first in the country for 12 consecutive years, providing a boost to support the green and low-carbon transformation.

It is essential to promote the deep integration of the marine economy's innovation, industrial, funding, and talent chainlinks to embrace the new quality productive forces, seize the new heights of marine economic development, and further optimize the allocation of innovative resources such as platforms, talents and finance.
