Fuzhou Marathon ignites city's passion for distance running
The Zuohai · 2024 Fuzhou Marathon took place on Dec 15, attracting the participation of 50,000 runners who explored the beauty of Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province.
This year's route started from Wuyi Square, passing through Sanfang Qixiang, Shangxiahang, Yantai Mountain, Huahai Park and more, showcasing the beauty of Fuzhou to the world.
According to official data, there were 128 participants from Taiwan, 79 from Hong Kong and Macao, as well as 104 foreign participants representing 20 countries and regions.
The champions of the full marathon for both men and women were from Ethiopia. Mohammed Abdu Endris clinched the men's title with a time of 2:10:54, while Robigenet Tadesse claimed victory in the women's division, crossing the finish line in a record time of 2:27:05.
"Fuzhou residents are very friendly and warm. I heard cheers all along the way, " said Huang Xuemei, the women's champion of the half marathon, expressing her hope that more people will come to Fuzhou in future to run the marathon.
Behind the event, another "marathon" quietly unfolded. Thousands of medical staff, police officers, security personnel and 5,230 volunteers began guarding the entire route before dawn.
The Fuzhou Municipal Health Commission provided great medical support for the proceedings. In addition, 53 full-marathon pacers and 39 half-marathon pacers also offered their services to the participants during the race.
