The 2024 World Energy Storage Conference was held from Nov 6 to 8 in Ningde, East China's Fujian province.
Under the theme "Charting a New Era in Global Energy Storage for Safe and Sustainable Development", the event witnessed the signing of 45 project agreements worth over 100 billion yuan ($13.9 billion).
The projects focus on new energy storage technologies, pumped storage, lithium-ion batteries, and downstream applications like electric vehicles and ships, as well as complementary modern service industries, propelling the growth of a holistic energy storage ecosystem.
In addition to the main forum, the conference featured three major forums on energy storage market applications, cutting-edge technologies, and industry ecology, respectively. Experts, scholars, representatives from international organizations, industry associations, companies along the supply chain, and more came together to deliberate on energy storage market applications, technological advancements, and business models, aiming to drive high-quality development in the energy storage sector.
Participants emphasized the vast potential of the energy storage market, driven by global energy transitions and the rapid growth of new energy sources. Energy storage plays a pivotal role in facilitating the transition to green energy. China's energy storage industry has expanded significantly in recent years, enhancing its technological capabilities and fostering a sustainable industry ecosystem. By September of this year, China had commissioned 58.52 GW/128 TWh of new energy storage, an 86 percent increase from the previous year.
During the main forum, Ningde highlighted its ambition to become a "Zero Carbon·Technology" city by 2030.
The initiative includes six innovative measures such as developing near-zero carbon energy systems, promoting green industries, and accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation. These endeavors aim to provide practical, scalable experiences that will aid in China's future development.
