China will continue to promote experiences of medical reform in Sanming city of East China's Fujian province, health officials announced on Sept 20.

The city of Sanming is considered as a pioneer in the reform of medicine and healthcare systems. Starting around 2012, the city accelerated efforts to improve efficiency at public hospitals through coordinated reform measures encompassing medical services, health insurance and the pharmaceutical industry.

Hu Qiangqiang, a spokesman of the National Health Commission, said during a news conference held on Friday that the commission has been summarizing key lessons of the Sanming model and promoting them nationwide.

"Local governments have been improving and implementing their own medical reform mechanisms and enhancing reforms in aspects of financial subsidy, pricing, and salary structures," he said.

Yang Minhong, head of the Fujian Provincial Health Commission, said that the province will continue rollouts of reform measures, such as improving the capabilities of rural clinics, expanding bulk payments of medicines and constructing regional medical centers.
