The animated version of Along the River During the Qingming Festival, one of the best-known Chinese paintings, is on display at Exhibition Hall D2 of the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center in Xiamen, Fujian province, from July 8 to Aug 31.

Children under the age of 18 can visit the exhibition for free.

The digitalized version is a 1:1 restoration of the art piece that was exhibited at the China Pavilion during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo on a screen that is 128 meters in length and 6.8 meters in height, which created immense interest at the time.

Along the River During the Qingming Festival was painted by Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) painter Zhang Zeduan. The artwork depicts life in what was then Bianjing, the dynastic capital, a buzzing waterside city, and is renowned for capturing the bustling scenes in finely wrought detail. It celebrates the festive spirit and worldly atmosphere of the Qingming Festival.

It is the only existing masterpiece from Zhang, and is housed at the Palace Museum in Beijing as a national treasure. The hand scroll painting is 528.7 cm long and 24.8 cm wide.
