Cave "seashell stone" stalactite wonders were discovered in the Laiyuan Cave scenic area of Guanzhishan National Geopark in Liancheng county, Longyan, Fujian province by scientists recently.
According to Zhang Jing, a scientist from the Institute of Karst Geology at the China Geological Survey, a single cave "seashell stone" is between 2 to 10 centimeters long, with a thin slit in the middle, and both sides are symmetrical. The composite form is much like a "seashell cluster" on a coastal reef.
The cave "sea shell stone" requires extremely demanding conditions to form, which makes them a very rare discovery. Therefore, this discovery is the first in China and internationally, Zhang said.
