Fujian province eyes high-quality education system by 2025

Fujian province held a press conference on Oct 13 to introduce the provincial educational development plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, aiming to establish a high-quality education system by 2025.
Fujian province has achieved the goals and fulfilled the tasks set for educational development during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, which has provided a good starting point for its ambitions over the next five years.
To achieve its overall goal, the province has set up specific targets like preschool enrollment reaching 99 percent, the retention rate of nine-year compulsory education exceeding 99 percent, and the gross enrollment rate for senior secondary education reaching over 97 percent.
According to the plan, six main tasks have been listed. The first is to develop well-rounded students by improving their moral quality, health literacy, and aesthetic abilities. The second is to promote high-quality development at all levels of education, including basic education, vocational education, higher-education, as well as establishing a lifelong learning system.
The third is to improve talents cultivation ability, as well as to speed up building research and innovative systems in universities and colleges. The fourth is to strengthen the supportive guarantees for education development, such as cultivating innovative and professional teachers. The fifth is to conduct comprehensive reform in the education sector. The sixth is to firmly follow the lead of the Communist Party of China.
