Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian province have been selected to pilot the construction of 15-minute living circles, according to a list released by the Ministry of Commerce on Aug 30.

The MOC had in May proposed the building of community business circles that are located within a 15-minute walk from the homes of residents.

Following this proposal, the Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce provided guidance to local governments in optimizing the layout, enriching commercial forms, expanding market entities, innovating service capabilities, and ensuring standardized operations to promote the construction of convenient living circles.

Fuzhou has been beefing up its efforts to upgrade the construction of communities in recent years. Built in 1952, the Junmen community in Fuzhou has been upgraded from an old community into the center of a 15-minute living circle which covers four streets and eight communities with a combined population of nearly 50,000.

The Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce released plans in July to promote the construction of a modern, multi-level, and multi-category 15-minute living circle in 10 pilot communities covering six districts.
