Two Fujian companies in Hurun Global 500
The 2021 Hurun Global 500 was released on Aug 20 by Hurun Research Institute in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province.
The institute listed the 500 most valuable non-State-controlled companies worldwide, ranked according to their value.
Two companies headquartered in Fujian province made it to the top 500 - Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (50th) and Anta Sports (252nd).
"It is surprising that CATL made it to the top 50 with a gross value of 1.3 trillion yuan ($203.54 billion) in only 10 years. Now, it has become the world's second largest energy company, next to ExxonMobil, an old American energy company," said Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Report.
Fujian-based Sportswear firm Anta Sports secured its place on the list with 423.8 billion yuan in value, which makes it the second largest sports firm in the world.
Rupert Hoogewerf said that the total value of the top 500 companies increased by over 100 trillion yuan over what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. This was mainly due to the maturity of the digital economy and the booming biotech sectors.
The threshold value for the top 500 list this year was 236.8 billion yuan, a 15 percent rise from a year earlier.
A total of 47 Chinese companies made it to the list with a total value of 36 trillion yuan.
Internet giant Tencent was ranked sixth in the world and the first in China. Alibaba's value dropped to 3.79 trillion yuan, ranking ninth on the list. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company rounded out the top 10.
