Builders in Fuqing, Fujian province successfully turned a 38,000-metric-ton section of a suspension bridge 40 degrees clockwise on the evening of Aug 23, moving it into place to minimize traffic disruption.

The 221.3-meter section is part of a bridge on a railway line linking Fuzhou and Xiamen.

Spanning 277.42 kilometers, the Fuzhou-Xiamen railway is China's first cross-sea high-speed railway with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It is expected to be completed in 2022.

Once it is put into service, the railway will cut the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian province to less than one hour, as well as form a half-hour traffic circle among Xiamen, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou.
