Built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the classical Furong Garden is located in Zhuzi Lane, in Fuzhou – capital of East China's Fujian province.

The garden covers an area of 4,000 square meters and its pavilions, rockeries, ponds, caves, towering trees and rare stones with strange shapes eloquently express its timeless beauty.

Featuring curved corridors and pavilions by the waterside, Furong Garden was once a gathering place for the literati of Fuzhou.

The garden has been home to some famous people in history. For instance, the first owner of the garden was Chen Wei, a political affairs officer in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The second owner was a Fuzhou poet, Fu Ruzhou. The third owner was Ye Xianggao, a prime minister during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

There is an old litchi tree in the garden which is said to have been planted by Ye Xianggao, still flourishing after more than 300 years.

As one of the four major gardens in Fuzhou, Furong Garden was listed as a municipal cultural relic protection unit in 1992, as well as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2006.
