Poverty alleviation policies benefit poor families
Dan Li, a Xiadang resident from an extremely poor family, shares the story of how the government's poverty alleviation policies helped her and her family.
With a disabled husband, a severely ill mother-in-law, and no savings, Dan's family was once in a desperate situation. Knowing their difficulties, the local government included them on a list of poverty-stricken households, and provided them with health insurance, jobs, and cash payments.
Now they have escaped poverty and the family has been accepted as a member of the local cooperative. "This gives us extra security and more hope for the future," Dan said, "I'm very grateful!"
