Fuzhou Taiwan Business Investment Zone, with a planned area of 13.26 square kilometers (including the 5.46-sq-km in the Songshan area in Luoyuan county, Fuzhou), was established in Mawei district, Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province in May 1989, after receiving approval from the State Council. It is located in the Fuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone and enjoys the same preferential policies as the development zone.

The Songshan area covers an area of 5.46 sq km and is located in the north of Luoyuan Bay. With several berths weighing more than 10,000 tons, the bay has an annual throughput capacity of more than 8 million tons. In addition, National Highway 104, Shenyang-Haikou High-speed Expressway and Wenzhou-Fuzhou Railway all run through the area.

Fuzhou Taiwan Business Investment Zone is among the first two zones of its kind in the Chinese mainland to focus on attracting Taiwan's industries of electronic information, new energy vehicles (NEVs), optoelectronics, and modern equipment manufacturing.

While closely cooperating with scientific and technological parks in Taiwan, Songshan area focuses on the development of precision machinery, high-end equipment, and mold manufacturing, as well as electronic information and cultural and creative industries.

The zone plays a key role in the integrated development of northeastern Fujian province and has seized business opportunities brought about by the rapid development of China’s NEV industry and strengthened cooperation and communication with Taiwan, with the aim of accelerating the construction of an industrial park which produces spare parts for NEVs.

The zone has also established a long-term cooperative relationship with a Taiwan-based incubator for small and medium-sized enterprises and carried out research on NEV spare parts. Over years of development, the zone has become a platform for Taiwan-funded firms and professionals looking to start businesses.

As Fujian's first 5G industrial park, the zone built a test base for autonomous driving in 2019, the first of its kind the province, and set up an industrial cluster for 5G-based autonomous driving in an effort to strengthen collaborative innovation, promote industrial upgrading, and attract more Taiwan-funded firms to invest.

By July 2019, a total of seven Taiwan-invested companies had settled in the zone, with a total investment of 1.89 billion yuan ($266.87 million).
