The 2019 Cross-Straits Fishery Week & China International Fishery Expo is slated to be held in Fuzhou, capital city of East China's Fujian province from May 30 to June 1, a government press conference said on Thursday.
The expo, occupying 46,000 square meters with 1,870 booths, will be comprised of nine exhibition zones showcasing over 1,000 varieties of marine products ranging from aquatic food, seafood ingredients and seasoning to ocean fishing equipment.
Thus far, nearly 400 enterprises from 34 countries and regions including Japan, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Thailand, South Korea and Indonesia have confirmed their participation; Japan, South Korea and Indonesia have participated for four consecutive years.
Foreign exhibitors and those from the provinces and municipalities outside Fujian account for 56 percent of the total this year, the organizing committee said.
A special highlight, a gigantic fish ball weighing more than 250 kilograms, is set to debut in hopes of rewriting the world record of 125 kilograms set at the expo last year.
More than 10 enterprises from Taiwan will attend the fair, bringing fishery products with rich Taiwan characteristics such as dishes with saury as a main ingredient.
Meanwhile, a number of sideline forums and business pairing activities will be held to boost global cooperation and exchanges in the fishery industry.
Officials from the embassies and consulates in China of more than 30 countries and regions including Australia, Ukraine, Mauritania, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia and Brazil will take part.
The expo has also invited 60 professional purchasing groups from all over the world. At present, more than 30 have confirmed their participation.
