Located in the midwestern part of East China's Zhejiang province and amid the middle reaches of the Qiantang River, Lanxi is a county-level city with a subtropical monsoon climate and an area covering 1,313 square kilometers administered by Jinhua.

With a history stretching back nearly 1,400 years, Lanxi is a famous cultural city in Zhejiang and one of the earliest leading tourist cities in China.

Chinese traditional culture – including Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism culture, as well as traditional Chinese medicine culture – has been passed on from generation to generation in Lanxi, giving birth to a number of historical celebrities and cultural masters such as celebrated monk and poet Guan Xiu and neo-Confucianist and educator Fan Jun.

Lanxi is the first national food cultural city in the Jinhua area. The local candied date was once listed as a souvenir to diplomatic envoys. The "Lanxi Waxberry", "Lanxi Loquat" and other agricultural products have received national geographical indications and the "Lanxi Waxberry" was even shortlisted in the "National Top Ten Fine Waxberry" rankings.

Lanxi is one of the important industrial cities in midwestern Zhejiang, with the seven traditional pillar industries – textiles, chemicals, medicine, cement, non-ferrous metal smelting and processing, machinery and electric power – currently in a period of rapid transformation.

Emerging industries – including new optoelectronic information materials, medical and health care, new energy transportation equipment and energy conservation and environmental protection – are also developing rapidly.
