Beidagang Wetland in Tianjin's Binhai New Area has entered its peak migratory bird season. In mid-October, 27 greater flamingos were spotted at the wetland's fishpond area along the Duliujian River — the highest number ever recorded there.
The pink-and-white flamingos can be seen feeding and flying low over the water, alongside flocks of greylag geese and egrets. Rare species including white-naped cranes, Oriental storks, Eurasian spoonbills, and whooper swans have also arrived.
Since the migration season began in October, over 180,000 migratory birds of more than 60 species have been observed at the wetland. As temperatures drop, the migration peak is expected in early November.
The reserve has implemented closed management, increased patrols, and deployed infrared cameras and a biodiversity monitoring system for full coverage. Ecological water replenishment is ongoing, and artificial feeding will be provided in extreme weather.
Beidagang Wetland is a key stopover on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and was listed as a Wetland of International Importance in 2020.
