China and DR Congo collaborate to safeguard public health

With the assistance of the Chinese embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), the Chinese medical expert team that is assisting the country in the fight against the Ebola outbreak has proactively engaged with local government departments, international humanitarian organizations and medical institutions to stay updated on the latest developments and effectively advance China's anti-epidemic assistance to the country.

All these efforts aim to form a synergy against the epidemic and enhance the DR Congo’s capability of responding to public health incidents.

The expert team visited multiple entities in the DR Congo, including the Secretariat of the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, the representative office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the representative office of Doctors Without Borders and the Sino-Congolese Friendship Hospital. They also met with a Chinese medical team that is on a regular assistance mission to the country.

They exchanged views on epidemic prevention, medical treatment, experience sharing and coordinated collaboration. All parties expressed their commitment to further strengthening communication and coordination to jointly address the public health challenge.

The DR Congo and relevant international organizations expressed gratitude for China’s long-standing support of the country’s healthcare sector and for its active participation in epidemic prevention. They commended that the Chinese medical expert team is pragmatic, professional and efficient, and that it is playing a significant role in enhancing the local epidemic prevention capabilities and safeguarding public health.
