The launch of a "Silk Road Maritime" rail-sea intermodal train from Chengdu, Sichuan province, on March 5 to Xiamen, Fujian province, has opened a new, efficient, and convenient international logistics channel for goods from the western inland regions to be exported via Xiamen Port.
The inaugural train, loaded with mechanical and electrical products, agricultural and sideline food items, and auto parts, departed from Chengdu Chengxiang Railway Station and arrived at Xiamen Qianchang Station. From Xiamen Port, the cargo was transferred to international vessels and shipped by sea to Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam and Thailand.
A multimodal "single bill of lading" model ensures seamless coordination among railway transport, port transfer, and international shipping, enabling the entire journey to be completed in as few as seven days, while reducing logistics costs by approximately 15 percent.
