Lushunkou is popularly known as a film and TV production site, and has been featured in many international blockbusters, including Brave Journey to Northeast China II and the box winner Goodbye Mr. Loser. 

Lushunkou's TV and film industry has integrated film and TV production, tourism and residential functionality. It began development in 2008, when Dalian Dingtai Culture Industry Corp invested 100 million yuan building a TV and film facility for the hit TV series, Brave Journey to Northeast China I. The facility featured buildings bearing elements from northeast China in 1930s-40s, and has become a permanent site ever since. The facility has since been used in more than 100 films and TV shows and received 3 million visits. It has become one of the first State-appointed film and TV production sites and a national tourism spot, and has been named one of the ten most popular scenic spots in Liaoning province. 

In 2014, Dalian's governmental publicity department and Dalian TV Station jointly made the TV series Dalian Story, setting its production base in Lushunkou. Dalian Dingtai invested 150 million yuan to build a new shooting facility on the old one for the show. The new facility covers an area of nearly 5,000 square meters and is the biggest of its kind in northeast China. European, Japanese and Chinese-styled streets with 1930s and 1940s elements were developed, and some old streets and well-known buildings in Dalian have been replicated. Dalian Story began shooting in September 2015. 

Following renovation, the film and TV facility will be expanded to become a multi-functional base that caters to the making of art works embodying the culture of Northeastern China, alongside Japanese and Russian elemental influences, history, war and modern life. 

The local government has also offered favorable policies on land, leisure and administrative procedure to enrich service projects, improve facilities and speed up film and TV project introduction and development. They are striving for a new film and TV model that integrates culture and the creative industry, TV with tourism, and film with modern marketing.
