The summer vacation travel rush pushed passenger throughput at Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport to a single-month record-breaking 1.07 million in August.
During the July 1-to-Aug 31 holiday, 14,773 flights carrying 2.09 million passengers departed or arrived at the airport, up 23.9 and 33.2 percent year-on-year respectively. Cargo and mail volumes increased by 41.4 percent to 7,784 tons.
To cushion the upcoming fall-off in travel demand, most air routes are offering ticket discounts in early September.
Those flying from Zhuhai to Hengyang of Hunan, Wanzhou of Chongqing, Luoyang of Henan, Lijiang and Tengchong of Yunnan, Shiyan of Hubei, Harbin of Heilongjiang, or Dalian of Liaoning can expect a 60 percent to 80 percent discount.
Travelers to Handan of Hubei, Taiyuan, and Yuncheng of Shanxi, or Huai'an of Jiangsu are likely to get up to 70 percent off regular ticket prices.
