Zhuhai has scenery, sunshine, beaches, hot springs, mountains, parks, offshore islands, and a relaxed, romantic atmosphere. Whether you’re playing on the beach, fishing from a boat or watching the sunset, you’ll be comfortable and content.

You can dine at one of Zhuhai’s famous restaurants or stay in one of many luxurious hotels, or relax in a stylish bar or café, or dance the night away at a top night club. But, no matter where you go, you’re sure to have a love affair with this charming, energetic city -- a feeling that is uniquely Zhuhai.

Since the dawn of the 1990s, Zhuhai has received numerous awards for environmental standards and achievements, including the Top 40 Cities for Travel in China, National Garden City, National Model City for (of) Environmental Protection (NMC), Cleanest City in China, and Best City for Land Travel in China. In 1999, Zhuhai received the International Award for Most Improved Living Environment from the United Nations, thanks to efforts by city planners and the local government, making it one of the “Most Livable Places.”

Zhuhai was also one of the first of China’s National Model Cities for Environmental Protection, back in 1997. Then, in 1999, it became one of the first state-level Ecologically Model Cities and since then, the city has given a lot of attention to urban planning and environmental protection. Moreover, Zhuhai has made an ecologically sound environment one of its three strategic moves for development. And, while trying to maintain rapid economic development, it has led the country in environmental protection.

The National Academy of Economic Strategy, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Social Sciences Academic Press published an Annual Report on China's Urban Competitiveness on May 9, 2014. Zhuhai was listed as the most people-oriented livable city of all Hong Kong, Macao, Taipei and 291 mainland cities upon an analysis of their economic, business and sustainable competitiveness as well as livability.

The analysis covered housing price to income ratio, and ecology and environment, and listed China’s Top 10 most livable cities as Zhuhai, Hong Kong, Haikou, Sanya, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Zhoushan, Wuxi, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. As a result, Zhuhai outdid Hong Kong to become China’s most livable city, the first municipality to do so in the Chinese mainland.

The air and water quality, plus noise level throughout Zhuhai continued to be fine in 2016, the Environmental Protection Bureau reported on June 5.

Zhuhai has remained on the top 10 of 74 cities nationwide in ambient air quality monitored by the Ministry of Environmental Protection since an urban air quality monitoring program was initiated in 2012.

Zhuhai has kept its sky unpolluted, mountains pristine, and water clean over the past three decades while setting a national standard for sustainable development and livability.

The city has drafted a document outlining three steps toward becoming an internationally livable city:

1. Better urban construction and more competitiveness as an internationally livable city by 2020

2. An internationally livable city with a safe, harmonious environment; international characteristics; efficient spatial layout; green, low-carbon facilities; a concordant, happy lifestyle; and convenient administration by 2030
