A design proposal calls for the first Grade-III Class-A public hospital in Hengqin New Area to be centrally placed next to the Hengqin International Life Science Center, the first phase of which is now under construction.
The developers, the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area and First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, have completed the bidding process and awarded the construction contract to Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Property Development Co.
The project will cover 6 hectares (14.8 acres) with floorage of 16.6 hectares (41 acres) and is designed to provide 500 beds. Proposed are emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and medical laboratory departments, as well as security systems, administrative management rooms, in-hospital living quarters, and outdoor auxiliary infrastructure.
There will be 2 hectares (4.9 acres) of floor space reserved for high-end medical personnel. The accommodation buildings are to cover 1 hectare (2.5 acres).

A multi-level greenery system, including a riverside path and garden, will surround the hospital with an expected green-space ratio of 35 percent, according to the builder.
The Hengqin International Life Science Center is another cooperative project led by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University proceeding as a medical service organization with social investment.
Expected to be completed by the end of 2021, the center will occupy about 1.3 hectares (3.2 acres) at a cost of 3.2 billion yuan ($500 million). There will be more than 500 beds available. Within the center will be medical institutes specialized in pulmonary, cardiovascular, neural-cerebral vascular, and cancer disorders as well as children’s health. There will also be facilities for other functions such as rehabilitation, elder care, R&D, and international exchanges.
