The Zhuhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone was one of the first national hi-tech zones approved by the State Council in 1992. The Main Park is located in Tangjiawan Town (northern Zhuhai), covering 139 sq km. It boasts a convenient transportation network with the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, Guangdong West Coast Expressway and Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT passing through the area. Ideally placed for business opportunities, the zone has the location advantage of being within the “One-Hour Economic Circle” of the Pearl River Delta.
The Hi-Tech Zone established a “4+2” Industrial Strategy with four emerging clusters of Software & IC design, Internet & Mobile Internet, Smart Grid, and Bio-Pharmaceutical & Medical Devices, plus two fields of High-End Manufacturing and Cultural & Creative Industries.
The Zhuhai Hi-Tech Zone is vitalizing itself with campuses of Sun Yat-sen University, Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai, and Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College. The total number of enrolled college students has exceeded 70,000.
The Technological Innovation Coast northern area and TOD Projects are important elements in the New Seaside Technological Town in the zone, which is a significant practice for low-carbon urban and transit oriented development. It was designed by Peter Calthorpe, an internationally prestigious planner. The Headquarters Base Project in the Hi-Tech Zone calls for a modern urban complex integrating technology headquarters office, and associated commercial and entertainment facilities on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta.
The Zhuhai Hi-Tech Zone is taking full advantage of SEZ brands, geographic location and ecological environment, development space, science and education, as well as history and culture. It is using these attributes to accelerate the development of high-end manufacturing and high-technology industries, and to step up the addition of modern services.
Relying on colleges in the zone and enterprises highlighting integrated circuit and software R&D, the zone has become a hi-tech industrial corridor featuring production, education and research. It will be a major engine for regional innovation in the west bank area of the Pearl River Delta , a pillar of the global value chain in which various countries handle different stages of production, and a platform for innovation.
Settled in the zone are:
