Shuttle buses stationed at bridge; fare announced

updated : 2018-03-30

Shiny new shuttle buses are lined up and ready to be the main transport on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), which is undergoing finishing touches.

The one-way fare to ride them between Zhuhai and Hong Kong was proposed at HK $80 ($12.70) by Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Shuttle Bus (Guangdong) Co Ltd.

The company, a consortium of Zhuhai Yuegong Xinhai Transportation, HZMB Shuttle Bus Services, and HZM Land Transportation (Macao), opened its bus logistics base on March 28. On site are 200 double-deck and 100 regular buses.

Destination: Hong Kong terminal

After alighting, passengers can use public transport to reach their final destinations. Other accepted vehicles on the bridge will be taxis, motorhomes, private cars, and trucks. Hong Kong trucks are not allowed to enter Macao, however, but must load and unload at the checkpoint.

Regarding other preparations, the 29.6-km (18.4-mile) HZMB main section is ready for opening and so is the 13.4-km (8.3-mile) Zhuhai Link Line.

As for the Hong Kong Link Road, paving and street installations were completed last May 18 on the 12 km (7.5 miles) of two-way traffic in three lanes. The ongoing final phase of construction is the debugging and testing of transport management and supervision systems.

The HZMB Macao Border Crossing Checkpoint was handed over to the Macao Special Administrative Region Government on March 15 while on the other side of the Zhuhai-Macao frontier port island, the Zhuhai Checkpoint is polishing up the customs service area.

When the 55-km (34.2-mile) crossing of the Lingding Sea is operational this year, Zhuhai will be the only city in the Chinese mainland directly connected by roadway to both Hong Kong and Macao.
