QQ mascots to adorn and serve at Penguin Hotel

Tencent's QQ penguin mascot and five other members of the QQ family are to embellish Chimelong Penguin Hotel next year with the "Qrobot" also providing smart operations in guestrooms.

The cooperation between China's biggest social medium, Tencent Holdings Ltd, and the world's largest penguin-themed hotel based in Hengqin New Area was announced on Oct 27.

"Qrobot" has been specially developed in the form of the QQ penguin to add a smart look to each hotel room. The cute, talking, and voice-recognizing little robot can adjust lighting, control curtains, and follow other instructions given by guests.

Joining the bot will be the first QQ mascot, a little penguin wearing a red scarf. Other members of the QQ family are fledgling penguin BabyQ, lively Eskimo Qana, loveable polar bear Dov, knowledgeable seagull Oscar, and song-loving parrot Anko.

This QQ style is intended to create a stronger feeling of home suitable for an entire family as well as to appeal to young tourists fond of "nijigen," a Japanese word describing the two-dimensional realm of anime fiction or fantasy.

Taking advantage of the widespread influence of QQ in social communication, culture, and technology, Chimelong Penguin Hotel expects to attract more customers of different ages with the help of a high-quality and intelligent physical presentation.

Tencent's vice-chairman, Yin Yu, was optimistic about the pioneering development, stating that IP protects the QQ virtual family in a well-known penguin-themed tourism destination.

Chimelong Penguin Hotel, with a total area of 180,000 sq m, is the closest accommodations to the entrance of Ocean Kingdom Theme Park. The hotel was built with the cooperation of leading architects and interior and landscape designers.
