Storms put Haibin Park temporarily out of action

updated : 2017-09-04

Large-scale cleanup and restorations are under way at Haibin Park in Jida in the wake of Typhoons Hato (Aug 23) and Pakhar (Aug 26). The park will be closed until Sep 8 to ensure the safety of visitors, it was announced by the Zhuhai Urban Utilities & Forestry Bureau on Aug 31.

Facilities and trees were severely damaged by devastating winds and crushing waves. Numerous waste and sanitation vehicles and heavy equipment are being used in cleanups around the clock.

Hato and Pakhar have caused massive damage citywide. Ten municipal parks are littered with fallen trees, heavily damaged roads, and ruined recreation facilities and guardrails.

Post-typhoon work is organized by Zhuhai Yuehua Landscaping Construction Management. Its crews are tackling fallen trees, flooded roads, and damaged facilities.

Not far from Haibin, more than 20,000 sq m of lawns and roads at Bailiandong (White Lotus Cave) Park have been restored for activities after days of relief work, according to a director surnamed Huang from the park’s administrative office.

Visitors can access Bailiandong Park from the main east gate, as the west entrance is closed due to road maintenance, Huang added.

According to an executive from Yuehua, as reconstruction work is being done in parks, tourists and residents are advised to be careful, especially to keep away from worksites and to follow instructions on noticeboards. Meanwhile, they are not to go to the hills for now, as damaged routes are pending repair.
