The safety of baked foods is the primary reason that both locals and expats patronize the Eight Sisters Bakery on Shuangzhu Street off Ningxi Road in New Xiangzhou beginning when it opens at 2 pm.
Eight Sisters refers to a sailboat and compass; the former can deliver precious food aboard ship to the destination only with accurate navigation by the latter, states operator Wang Lizhe, a PhD holder and overseas returnee. By running the foodstuff safety demonstration base, Wang endeavors to show people what “authentic food” is like and to turn out a cadre of food craftsmen. They, she says, will promote changes and upgrades of small-and-medium-sized foodstuff enterprises.
Wang had worked as a lecturer at Nanjing Agricultural University, researcher of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, project director of Luxembourg National Research Center Food Nutrition & Toxicology Department, and independent advisor of global functional food and chronic disease prevention. She is now a technical director at Zhuhai Foodawa Food Technology.

The food safety demonstration base settled in Zhuhai in September 2015 with the support of the Human Resources & Social Security Bureau. Its aim is to promote food safety, quality control, sightseeing, and demonstration in a German manner in Zhuhai. The leading nine-member team is comprised of international food experts, entrepreneurs, and scientists. After two years’ hard work, a Front Shop, Back Factory model has been set up with the promise of “honest food and foodstuff personnel,” Wang explained.
Wang said the base has also cooperated with local senior colleges and universities by establishing new schools and sending a batch of excellent young talents to further study in Germany. She also plans to import advanced food environment cleaning and safety concepts from abroad. One example is the German Wiper Ring which would generalize 50 to 100 demonstration plants nationwide and lead more than 5 million Chinese food SMEs to switch business and upgrade.
In addition, the base offers free training in food safety knowledge, children’s education, and bread-making skills.
The base, insisting on researching and making green and healthy foods, now has more than 40 core products covering breads, energy bars, chocolates, ice creams, and cookies.
