It's a bird, it's a plane, it's the China-made J-20!

Day one of China’s showcase aviation and aerospace show, Airshow China 2016, got off to a flying start in Zhuhai, southern Guangdong Province, on Nov 1.

The highlight of the day was the first ever public display of the much anticipated J-20 stealth fighter, developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industries Group, a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Two J-20s took to the skies shortly after the morning’s grand opening ceremony, attended by military leaders from across the globe, including the UK, Pakistan, Russia, and South Korea.

The roar of the J-20s’ turbofan engines impressed the spectators below, as the two performed manoeuvers demonstrating their modern capabilities. 

Also taking to the skies was the previously unveiled heavy transport plane, Y-20, developed by Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation.

Other highlights from day one included spectacular aerial performances from the UK’s Red Arrows, the Pakistan Air Force Sherdils display team, and the PLAAF’s J-10 fighter jets.

The Zhuhai air show is the biggest of its kind in China, with makers and buyers of aircraft gathering from around the world to showcase and sell their latest products.

James Speich, senior marketing manager for US aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Witney, said, “We’ve been coming to the Zhuhai air show for the past 10 years, it’s a great place to do business.”
