Jiexia Village

Zhao Weimao, a royal descendant of the Southern Song dynasty (960-1279 AD), built Jiexia Village after he made a fortune in the traditional Chinese medicine trade.

Jiexia Village was named for Xiashan Hill in the distance. Xia refers to sunglow in Chinese, and therefore Jiexia means “meeting sunglow.” The manors here used to house the Zhao Clan which was the most thriving family in the village.

The estate had 14 houses of grey bricks and black roofs, the 1,000 sq m Chongji Hall with 72 doors, as well as art and martial arts halls, stables, gardener lodges, gardens, an 880 sq m lotus pond with a pavilion and a colored stone boat, a zigzag stone bridge, and a 13.2 m long and 4.3 m wide bridle path. Moreover, a moat with dense acuate irons on the bottom was built in the Song dynasty to protect against attacks. The moat was reconstructed two years ago.

With a satisfying environment and suitable facilities after recent renovations, the village is a charming place for visitors to seek antiquity. Some TV series have also been filmed there.
