Nanmen is a model Happy-Living Village of Zhuhai. It was appraised as a “National Civilized Village” and one of the “Top 10 Beautiful Villages in China”.
Founded in 1403, the first year of the Yung-lo (Yongle) Emperor’s reign in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), Nanmen Village covers 8.1 sq km with 11 natural settlements. Most of the residents are descendants of the imperial family of the Song dynasty (960-1279). There are ancestral halls, ancient dwellings, and sacrificial rites which continue to be observed for the Song imperial family.
