One of the 10 major islands of Zhuhai, Dong’ao is located at the center of the Wanshan Archipelago, covering 4.62 sq km. As early as the Shang Dynasty (16th to 11th century BCE), there were humans living there.
Chongcheng Castle, Beacon Tower, and rock carvings of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) witnessed some extraordinary times of the sea frontier in South China. With the Lingding Coast project, the island has been developed into a demonstration site for tourism of Zhuhai, and as a unique seaside resort in South China.
