In a celebration of the 97th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army of China, the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia recently hosted a reception during which some intricate Yangzhou paper-cutting works curated by the city's esteemed craft master Zhang Rong mesmerized attendees with their beauty and cultural significance.
"Upon receiving the invitation to participate in the event, I dedicated two days to creating a piece titled Belt and Road, a representation of the friendship between China and Saudi Arabia," said Zhang.
Saudi Arabia is one of the earliest countries to respond to, support, and participate in China's Belt and Road Initiative. Inspired by the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, this artwork artfully depicted elements such as auspicious clouds, deserts, rivers, and camels, embodying well wishes for the continued prosperity of the China-Saudi friendship.
At the event, Zhang also showcased the ancient and revered Chinese traditional art form by hand, presenting vivid paper-cutting masterpieces of China's breathtaking landscapes and Saudi Arabia's unique cultural tapestry, including symbols like camels, horses, and date palm trees.
Yangzhou paper-cutting features elegant and smooth lines and exquisite and graceful compositions, carrying the wisdom of the Chinese nation for thousands of years. Besides its aesthetic appeal, it can also transcend geographical confines, serving as a medium for fostering cultural exchanges and dialogue.
