The lotus flower is special to the Chinese. The flower, pure in form, soars untainted from the muddy bed of the marshland from which it sprouted. Wavering in the gentle breeze, it stands tall on its straight and brittle stem above the murky water graced by its reflection.
There are some recommended places to appreciate lotus flowers in Yangzhou, east China's Jiangsu province.

Slender West Lake
Slender West Lake was originally a natural river course leading to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal during the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) periods.
Narrow in shape, the lake is like a tall and slender beauty. It is 4.3 kilometers in length with an area of over 30 hectares.
The scenic spot's main sights include Long Dyke & Spring Willow, Xuyuan Garden, Xiaojin Hill, Chuitai Terrace, Five-Pavilion Bridge and White Pagoda.
It is typical of the Chinese water-based garden art combining the grace and elegance of the south with the grandeur and magnificence of the north.
The 30th National Lotus Exhibition will begin at the Slender West Lake, in the west suburb of Yangzhou, with about 10,000 pots of lotus flowers of over 400 varieties to be exhibited on July 9.
During the exhibition, lotus-related calligraphies and paintings will also be on display. Tourists may appreciate the Chinese traditional culture while enjoying the sight of lotus flowers.
