Urumqi Vocational University, founded in 1985, is the only comprehensive full-time general vocational college in Urumqi and was the first vocational college established in Xinjiang after reform and opening-up started in 1978.
The university has five campuses, covering 140 hectares. It offers 63 majors, and has 710 faculty members, among whom 473 are full-time teachers, with 32 percent of the teachers holding titles of associate professor or above.
With assets of 700 million yuan ($99 million), the university has 224 experimental (training) rooms on campus and 259 off-campus practice and training bases. The value of its teaching and scientific research equipment is 103 million yuan, and the library has more than 950,000 books (including electronic books).
It has international exchanges with other countries. For instance, it has cooperated with PSB Academy of Singapore in joint school-running, covering four majors of logistics management, hotel management, electrical automation, machinery manufacturing and automation.
