Located at Urumqi, Xinjiang Medical University is the only independent medical college in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. It was founded in 1954 and 2021-09-07 completed in July 1956.
The university has 22 departments and 26 undergraduate programs, covering the four disciplines of medicine, management, science and literature, forming a professional structure and layout with medicine as the main subject and other disciplines complementing each other. It has 134 practice bases, including six affiliated hospitals and six non-affiliated hospitals.
There are 16,080 full-time students at the university. Among them are 10,706 undergraduate students, 3,304 full-time postgraduate students and 262 doctoral students. The university has 15,693 faculty and staff members, including those at affiliated hospitals, among whom 778 are full-time teachers, with 1,494 of those being clinical teachers. Teachers with senior titles account for 46.9 percent of full-time teachers, and teachers with master’s or doctor’s degrees account for 69.4 percent of the total.
The university has established inter-university cooperation with universities and research institutions in many countries, including the United States, Russia, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Pakistan. At present, the university has 564 overseas students, including students with doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees.
