Tianjin has firmly promoted the protection of the ecological environment and followed the path of ecological priority and green development. As a national key ecological functional area, Jizhou district has gradually explored a new path to integrate ecological protection and economic development.

Over the past ten years, Jizhou has insisted on the principle that "lucid waters and lush mountains are as valuable as mountains of gold and silver." The local government adheres to the idea of giving priority to ecology, promotes the construction of the "871" major ecological project and the systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes and grasslands.

Focusing on the afforestation of the mountains, Jizhou has implemented the restoration project of mining mountains. In 2018, Tianjin listed mine management into its three-year action plan of "blue sky defense", and has given full play to the leading role of financial funds, and explored a new mine management method of "government + social participation". Under this framework, Jizhou has encouraged social capital to participate in the restoration project while developing tourism and other forms of business.

Donghouziyu mining area is located in the middle of Panshan scenic area and Jizhou urban area. Its superior geographical location provides it with living facilities and tourism resources. Jizhou government set out plans to build a project of "mining pit management + ecological education", which attracted investors from Beijing.

After more than three years of efforts, the Donghouziyu mine restoration project was completed at the end of last year. A total of 86,000 cubic meters of soil has been backfilled, and tens of thousands of trees have been planted. At the same time, a natural museum and an insect research institute have been built, and more than ten ecological education courses have been developed.
