Tianjin's Jizhou district has seen some success in revitalizing its rural areas through developing modern agriculture and recognizable brands.

Jizhou has the only mountainous area of the city, as well as the largest amount of rural land where a third of the city’s rural villages are located.

According to its geographical characteristics, the district has formed three modern agricultural zones, with the eastern part dedicated to ecological construction, the middle to vegetables, and the north to leisure and tourism.

Its efforts to grow green food and marketing have resulted in decades of specialized brands and national demonstration zones showcasing modern methods and quality control.

It has also cultivated new entities to boost efficiency, with nearly 3,000 family farms and 1,500 cooperatives.

The district is home to 164 boutique homestays and four homestay villages, which have experienced a boom due to increasing rural tourism.

Improving people’s livelihoods has been a main focus. Infrastructure and public services have seen notable improvements after local authorities moved to shore up their weaknesses.

Villages have been lifted out of poverty and the income of each impoverished village has reached more than 200,000 yuan($31,408).
