World Ocean Week opens in Xiamen

The opening ceremony of the 2020 World Ocean Week was held in the coastal city of Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Nov 23, local media reported.

Jointly held by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and the Xiamen Municipal People's Government, this year's event focuses on the development of the marine economy in light of the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the development plan of the marine economy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, as well as the building of a maritime community of a shared future.

This year's event, which is being held online and offline, will be attended by a large number of government officials, industry leaders, experts and scholars from home and abroad.

Sixty-eight marine industry projects with a total investment of 35.5 billion yuan ($5.41 billion) are expected to be signed during the event.
