Yang Linping meets UNEP delegation

On April 23, Vice-President of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China Yang Linping met with a delegation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headed by Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, deputy executive of the UNEP and assistant secretary-general of the UN.

Yang acknowledged the sound cooperative relations between Chinese courts and the UNEP in environment-related judicial efforts. The two sides have achieved a series of pragmatic outcomes in case study exchanges, judicial capacity building and book compilation and translation, according to Yang. China's SPC is willing to deepen communication and cooperation with the UNEP in promoting environment-related rule of law and green development, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to the building of a beautiful world and a community with a shared future for mankind, she said.

Mrema lauded China's achievements in environment-related judicial reform and innovation, and raised her hope to share China's experience in judicial protection of environment and further expand cooperation in this field.

The two sides also exchanged views on Chinese judges with environmental-specific experience joining the Governing Board of the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment, renewing the memorandum of understanding on high-quality cooperation, and strengthening talent exchanges and training.
